In spite of the icy roads and snow on the field, four of our members managed to get to the field for the January Frostbite Shoot. Martyn Smith made the best score, and they all had a great, if very cold, morning. Shooting in the cold and snow is always a problem, for archers and for bows, and finding arrows that missed the target takes a lot of time searching in the snow, but that's another story!
Thankfully the snow had gone by the time of our Open Indoor Record-status Shoot at The Joseph Whitaker Sports Centre in mid-January. Sixty-three archers took part, many of them shooting all three sessions during the day. We were pleased to see so many of the best UK archers taking part and were hoping that there might be a new record set,but it was not to be, even though the shooting was to a very high standard. Three of our members took part: Julie Bancroft was 4th lady recurve, Toby Geffryes was 5th gentleman recurve, and George Smith was 5th Junior recurve. Good results!
We were congratulated by the Notts Archery Society Chairman on the excellent standard of the event. Thanks to Linda Telford, Organiser; Colin Telford and Mario Stankovic, two of the judges; club members who made up the working party.
Our junior members have been working hard at their shooting , gaining badges in the FITA award scheme: red feather and gold feather badges for the shorter distances, then white, black, blue, red and gold arrow badges for achievement at increasing distances. They are all doing very well: Alex Sheriston and William Leonardi-Bee are now going for their black arrow; Ashley Buckland and George Smith for their red arrow; Katie Buckland for her gold feather; Reece Buckland for his white arrow and Jonny Smith for his black arrow.
Final news for this month. Bill Hawkes has got through the next stage of the selection process in his quest to gain a place in the GB team for the 2012 Paralympics.
Well done all of you.
